ExternalLink
Use the ExternalLink component to link to resources outside the user's current
Dynatrace environment, such as Dynatrace documentation, or third-party sites. It
always opens in a new tab and displays an external link icon.
When to use
- To link to resources outside the user's current environment — including other
Dynatrace environments, Dynatrace resources like docs.dynatrace.com, or
external domains.
ExternalLinkalways opens in a new tab.
When not to use
- For navigation within the same environment. Use Link instead.
Content guidelines
Write link text that describes the destination — use words from the target page title. Avoid generic text like "here", "this page", or "more".
- Don't include "external" in the link text — the icon already signals that the link opens outside the current environment.
- Use lowercase for inline links unless the text contains a proper name or acronym.
- Don't include end punctuation inside the link when it closes a sentence.
- For standalone links, use patterns like "Learn more about [topic]" or "For details, go to [page title]".
- Use "go to" for required reading; use "visit" for optional content.
